Biographical Info
The Grumpy Troll Brewery, Restaurant and Pizzeria is located in the heart of historic downtown Mount Horeb.
Formerly the Mount Horeb Creamery and later a large-scale cheese factory, the 100 year old building was transformed into a brewery and restaurant in 1998.
Master Brewer Mark Knoebl has produced many award-winning beers at The Grumpy including Amnesia Baltic Porter, winner of the Gold Medal at the 2008 World Beer Cup as the best Baltic Porter in the world. In addition, RateBeer.com rated The Grumpy Troll 40th best brewpub in the world in 2007. There are generally 12 beers on tap including barrel-aged and cask conditioned beers, all created in the Grumpy’s brewery. Most are regional or national award winners. The brewery is visible through large windows in the main dining room. Call for information about brewery tours. There is also an outdoor beer garden available during nice days for tasting beer and dining.
The downstairs restaurant menu features lunch and dinner selections including fantastic burgers, fresh tasty wraps, masterfully built sandwiches, tender steaks, moist and tasty chicken selections, mouth watering pasta, soups, salads, and filling appetizers. Fridays feature a traditional fish fry and on Saturday enjoy succulent prime rib prepared by their chef. There are daily lunch specials and nightly dinner specials as well.
The second floor is home to The Grumpy Troll Pizzeria featuring gourmet pizza baked with “Treber” grain dough crust, the same grain we use to produce our handcrafted ales. This is a pizza lovers destination with a full bar, games, large screen TV’s, pool table, and English steel tipped darts.
There is also a nice selection of shirts, hats, pint glasses, and ceramic steins as well as bottles of their handcrafted beer and refillable 64 ounce growlers for sale.
