Biographical Info

Tyrol Basin offers winter fun for all ages in the great outdoors. Located just 5 miles north of Mount Horeb, skiers and snowboarders of all ability levels can explore Tyrol’s 16 tree-lined slopes that extend over 40 acres on the 300 foot vertical hill. Three triple chairlifts, two rope tows, and a handle tow provide winter enthusiasts with easy access to the slopes. Of special interest to freestyle skiers and boarders are Tyrol’s terrain parks. Both the Gentle Ben Progression Park for beginners and the more advanced parks, including one of the few half-pipes in the Midwest, are kept exciting by frequently changing the slide rails, jumps and terrain features.

Established in 1958, Tyrol closed its doors in 1985 and remained closed for four years. A new era began for Tyrol Basin in 1989, when the area reopened. Over the next twenty years, Tyrol Basin has grown into a resort with a quaint mix of old and new. The “Chalet” is a renovated barn and offers a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere in the Tyrol Cafe? and Double Diamond Bar. Souvenirs and “I forgot it” items can be found in   Tyrol’s “Snowthings” gift shop, located in one of the first buildings built for skiers at Tyrol in the early 1960s. Tyrol added two new buildings to the base facilities in the 1990s, the ski school center and a skier services building that houses the ticketing, equipment rentals, and first aid treatment.

Customers can choose from a variety of lift ticket options for daytime or nighttime fun. On Tyrol’s popular “Twelve- Dollar Tuesday,” all tickets, rentals and lessons are each $12. Also offered is a flexible 4-hour ticket, available on the hour throughout the day. Take advantage of the various ticket specials and lesson packages for all ages by visiting Tyrol’s website for the latest deals.

Beginner packages are available every day for people (6 years and older) who would like to learn to ski or snowboard. The package includes everything: your ticket, equipment rental with helmet, and a one hour lesson. Lessons for children are featured on Saturdays and Sundays at Tyrol Basin’s Children’s Ski/Board School. Attractively priced, lessons may be purchased for children who are 4 thru 10 years old. The lessons are taught by the hour and in small groups.

No matter what your skill level is, Tyrol Basin has slopes and smiles to meet your needs. Come and enjoy that “home-away-from-home” feeling where you can spend the day with family or friends and experience winter fun at its best. As always, Tyrol Basin is dedicated to providing premier snow conditions and creating opportunities to challenge their customers whether it’s their first time on the snow or they’re competing in a special event. After all, at Tyrol Basin, “Fun is an Attitude,” and after 20 years, the commitment to winter fun continues.

Looking for a location for a wedding reception, family reunion, or company gathering? Plan your special event at Tyrol Basin during the “off-season,” May through October. Tyrol’s peaceful country setting is a beautiful backdrop for any event gathering. Tyrol offers an excellent selection of buffet-style or sit-down dinners along with a full-service bar and dance area.
